Snow Day

Today was, in the words of Mrs. Bryant when I called her on our phone tree, "a gift." Yes, yes, I know the importance of consistent school attendance, and I bemoan any cuts of school days because of lack of finances, but the unexpected wonder of sparkling, crystalline snow in this (blessedly, really) wet, green-and-grey coastal town calls for celebration. Ordinary scenes and mundane objects become magic under the soft spell of snow. Yesterday I took pictures , wrote letters and walked the dog, and I spent today reading, writing and drawing. (Hey! That's what I expect my students to do everyday! However, I also indulged in some chocolate and Good Earth Tea, which I do not habitually share with my students.) I recieved, then, a double gift: snow and quiet time for thinking.
